We watch the gray flakes drift down and settle there, warm and powdery. He just holds it, keeps it on his tongue like it’s the most natural thing in the world, while we keep talking right over him as if he’s invisible. Next to us on the low pouf we’ve rested our bare feet, still warm from the day, toes flexing lazily. Every so often one of us brushes a foot against his cheek or his chest, just a light touch to remind him of his place, then we go right back to ignoring him completely.Towards the end, when the cigarettes are burned down almost to the filter, my friend gets that wicked little smile. She brings the glowing tip right up to his tongue and slowly, deliberately stubs it out-pressing, twisting the butt so the ember hisses and sizzles against the wet surface. He flinches just a tiny bit, a muffled whimper escapes, but his mouth stays wide open, perfectly obedient. I do the same with mine: same slow press, same burning sting, same smell of scorched tongue mixing with tobacco.And then, for the grand finale-we pull the chewing gums we’ve been working on for a while out of our mouths. Warm, sticky, soaked in our saliva. One after the other we drop them onto his tongue, right on top of the ash and the fresh burn marks. “Swallow it all,” I tell him in that calm, soft and dangerously sweet voice. He finally closes his mouth, struggles a little as he works it down, face flushed red, eyes glassy with that beautiful mix of shame and devotion.We just sit there for a moment, watching him, completely satisfied, before picking up our conversation again like nothing happened. He stays on his knees, mouth still slightly parted, tasting smoke, ash, burnt skin, and our chewed gum all mixed together. Right where he belongs. Perfect little ashtray.

Non fiata, non si muove di un millimetro se non glielo ordiniamo. Ogni tanto scuotiamo la cenere direttamente sulla sua lingua, la vediamo cadere piano, grigia e calda, e depositarsi li. Lui la tiene ferma, la trattiene, quasi la respira, mentre noi continuiamo a parlare come se fosse aria. Accanto a noi, sul pouf basso, abbiamo appoggiato i nostri piedi nudi, ancora caldi dalla giornata. Ogni tanto uno di noi li muove piano, li sfrega tra loro o li allunga per sfiorargli la guancia, il petto, giusto un tocco leggero per ricordargli il suo posto, poi torniamo a ignorarlo completamente. Verso la fine, quando la sigaretta e quasi finita, la mia amica fa quel sorrisetto malizioso. Avvicina la brace accesa alla sua lingua e la spegne lentamente, premendo con calma, girando il mozzicone per far sfrigolare bene la brace sulla pelle bagnata. Lui sussulta appena, un gemito soffocato gli scappa, ma la bocca resta spalancata, obbediente. Io faccio lo stesso con la mia: stessa pressione lenta, stesso bruciore, stesso odore di sigaretta bruciata e lingua scottata che si mescola. E poi arriva il tocco finale: tiriamo fuori le gomme da masticare che teniamo in bocca da un pezzo, calde, appiccicose, piene della nostra saliva. Una dopo l'altra gliele lasciamo cadere sulla lingua, proprio sopra la cenere e i segni freschi delle bruciature. “Ingoia tutto” gli dico con quella voce calma, morbida e letale. Lui chiude finalmente la bocca, fa fatica a mandare giu, faccia rossa, occhi lucidi di quell'umiliazione perfetta mista a devozione totale. Restiamo li un attimo a guardarlo, soddisfatte, prima di riprendere a chiacchierare come se niente fosse successo. Lui resta in ginocchio, bocca ancora un po' aperta, con in gola il sapore di fumo, cenere, pelle bruciata e gomma masticata. Esattamente dove deve stare. Il posacenere perfetto.
